Literary
The papers of Larry Buttrose is a comprehensive collection providing an extensive record of his works and provides a very good picture of the many directions his work has taken. They provide a valuable insight into the creative process and the difficulties encountered by a writer in having his work performed or published.
The papers include correspondence, manuscript and typescript drafts of poetry, novels, travel writing and dramatic works; notebooks, research material, newspaper cuttings, audio-visual material, photographs and posters.

Larry Philip Buttrose was born on December 16 in Adelaide, South Australia in 1952. He attended Saint Ignatius College, Norwood and Athelstone in Adelaide, 1957-1969, and graduated from the University of Adelaide in May 1976, with a B.A. in Politics and Anthropology.
Buttrose is a playwright, screenwriter, author and poet whose work within these media covers a wide range of genres. He worked as a freelance journalist and travel writer for publications in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Europe and the United States.
Buttrose co-edited:
Dharma with Stephen Measday and Donna Maegraith (1971-1975)
Real poetry (1978-1979). Real poetry was an Adelaide-based poetry journal which was published for only two issues, one in 1978 and one in 1979, and continued the journal Dharma which was published by the same editorial team
Number three Friendly Street poetry reader (1979)
He co-founded:
Salomon Buttrose Productions in December 1983 with Mandy Salomon
The Gap, renamed The Gap Club a cabaret venue within the Sydney Trade Union Club at Surry Hills with Mandy Salomon and Judy Barnsley in 1983
He was director of Foreign Books established in July 1986
Director/secretary of the film production company Fatuxa from 1987.
Buttrose has received the following awards:
Winner Paul Tonkin Prize for Radio and TV Cadets, 1971
Australian Film Commission Distinctly Australian Fellowship, 1995 for an attachment with the USA film director John Feldman in New York.

This series relates to the cabaret theatre The Gap, re-named The Gap Club, co-founded by Larry Buttrose, Mandy Salomon and Judy Barnsley in late 1983. This theatre operated from the second level of the Sydney Trade Union Club in Surry Hills.
